American Gangster
7.gru.2007
American Gangster as a drugs thriller is well made with decent attention to period detail and giving mileage to both the hunter and the hunted. At over two hours, it seems a little over-long and you also feel you've been here before in other films in this genre.

Overall, this is a thrilling drama, but your sympathies lie more with the monsters than the slayers. Perhaps the yearning to see more of a sinister side would turn it from the supposedly family entertainment into more of an adult offering, but maybe that wouldn't have been such a bad thing.

It's a feisty and lively film that serves to embarrass the government and the police, combining interviews, footage of politicians, news clips, cartoon animation, and film of peaceful protests. It's a film that offers no easy answers but deserves to be seen for showing the sacrifices and anxieties that any spouse has to endure if their loved one's profession takes them into a war zone.
